Solar in the City: Achieving Aggressive Green House Gas Emissions Reduction in Urban Centers
TRACK: Courage to Scale

With states gearing up to meet renewable energy carve-outs, the catastrophic effects of climate change increasingly present, and utilities shifting to a business model structured around when and how people use energy, the political, environmental, and economic pressures to adapt are finally converging on cities. In this workshop we will examine the feasibility of aggressive GHG reductions using solar in several U.S. cities, confronting the apparent conflict between urban density and the need for locally produced renewable energy. Small groups of participants, each representing a city, will compete to develop an urban planning strategy for achieving the greatest emissions reductions.
