Engaging Young People in Living Systems at Their Living Building
Track: Equity and Youth

How do you show elementary age kids that a building is alive? The Hitchcock Center for the Environment is an environmental learning center, working with elementary age school children to engage them in deep ecology. They are moving in to a new building that is seeking full Living Building certification. This is about designing and implementing a building dashboard that engages children in how the new building mimics natural systems, and shows the kids their place in the systems of the building and the world. This is not your typical building dashboard. This highly collaborative effort has created a different kind of dashboard - one that shows systems, not just data.
