Between the First & Last Mile: Challenges & Opportunities Facing Oregon’s Regional Food System
TRACK: Water and Food

The Redd on Salmon Street offers a new approach to food aggregation, processing, distribution, and education infrastructure to grow a robust sustainable regional food economy. An initiative of Ecotrust in Portland, OR, the Redd is the result of a unique group of collaborators, including a farmer from Eastern Oregon, the CEO of an urban delivery company utilizing electric assist freight tricycles, and the Coquille Indian Tribe. The session concludes with a systems-thinking group exercise "Build a More Sustainable Burger" with the goal of making the process of growing, processing, selling, and consuming the ingredients increasingly sustainable.
